Pin-Up Girls

Olive Thomas by Alberto Vargas

Hello everyone, today I’m going to write about pin-up. May be you can ask yourself what is pin-up or Isn’t that pornography? Well, I’m going to tell you a little of this, and what really is.
A pin-up is a photograph or another kind of illustrations  of a girl in a suggestive attitude or just a girl with a smile,  saying hello or looking to the camera. This images appear in the cover of magazines, comic-books or calendars. The models of this works are called pin-up girls.

The pin-up and pin-up girls exist from the end of the XIX century, but the time when it takes more popularity, was in the 1920’s. In those time pin-up girls devoted their careers to pin-up, it was their full-time work. Nowadays, they are photography models, actress or singers, without been full-time pin-up girls.

I’d like pin-up because of the aesthetic that had. By example, the illustrations of Alberto Vargas are soft and delicate but with a touch of the erotic and mysterious of women.

Marilyn Monroe
Betty Page
My favorite pin-up models are Marilyn Monroe and Betty Page. Both became pin-up girls in the 1950’s and they represent, in my opinion, opposite poles of woman archetype. In one side we have Marilyn, the sexy and coquette blonde, a little inocent. And by the the other side is Betty,black-haired  is also sexy but at the same time very erotic and domineering.

Pulp Fiction

Hello Classmates!

Today I’m going to write about one of my favorites movies: Pulp Fiction.

I’d like this movie because is an uncommon movie that go out of the classical filmmaking. The idea of Tarantino of make a nonlinear movie, I think is great. The soundtrack also is one of the best I ever heard.

The film was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture; Tarantino won for Best Original Screenplay. It was also awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.

Pulp Fiction is a 1994 film directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film is known for its eclectic dialogue, ironic mix of humor and violence, nonlinear storyline, and its cinematic references to pop culture.

Pulp Fiction joins the intersecting storylines of Los Angeles mobsters, fringe players, small-time criminals, and a mysterious briefcase.

Pulp Fiction have been the inspiration for many later movies that adopted various elements of its style. Considered a cultural watershed, Pulp Fiction's influence has been felt in several other media.

I’m going to left you a funny flash called “Pulp Fiction in 30 seconds”, is a flash of the movie, acted by bunnies. I hope you like it.

Carl Gustav Jung

Carl Gustav Jung was a swiss psychiatrist, psychologist, and essayist. Central figure in the initial stage of psychoanalysis, and after that, founder of the analytical psychology.

Carl Jung was a begginer in the deep psychology, and one most read author in of this area in the XX century. His theoretical  and clinical  approach emphasized the functional conection between the structure and material manifestations of the psique.  This encouraged him to include on his methodology  concepts from philosophy, alchemy, astrology, and sociology, as well as literature and the arts.

On of the contributions of Carl Jung to Psychology it is related with the distinction between the individual unconscious and the ‘collective unconscious’, that according to him, contain feelings, thoughts and memories that conditioned each subject ( from his birth and not by learned influence). The collective unconscious would contain ‘archetypes’, primitive and essential images that we ues in situations like confronting death or the partner choosing and manifestate en the cultural elements like religion, myths, fairy tales and other popular legends.

Carl Gustav Jung comes to my life thanks to my mother, she reads a lot of books about psychology, philosophy and literature, so in tha way she told me about Jung and how I’m studding psychology I began to read about him too.

He wrote numerous book, specially about the analytical methods and the relations between psycotherapy and religious beliefs.

Spaghetti

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to write about one of my favorite things in the world: Spaghetti.
Spaghetti is the plural form of the Italian word spaghetto, which is a diminutive of spago, meaning "thin string" or "twine”.

Spaghetti is a long, thin and  circular pasta of Italian origin. Spaghetti is made of flour and water. Italian dried spaghetti is made from durum wheat semolina, but outside of Italy it may be made with other kinds of flour.

Spaghetti is popular in most of the countries gastronomy, not only in the Italian one. Spaghetti is frequently served with tomato sauce, which may contain herbs, like oregano and basil, and olive oil, meat, or vegetables. Other spaghetti preparations include using Bolognese sauce, alfredo and carbonara. Grated hard cheeses, such as Pecorino Romano, Parmesan and Grana Padano, are often added. In Chile Spaghetti is commonly served  using Bolognese sauce or Alfredo sauce, but sure that exist more preparations than that.

I’d like Spaghetti because I’d love the mixture of flavours of the Pasta and the tomato sauce, the smell of the cheese and the olive oil, it’s so yummy!

If you don’t know how to cook Spaghetti, here I left you a tutorial video

Photos from the past

Hello Classmates

Today I’m going to write about one of my favorite familiar photograph. This photo was taken by my dad, and shows my Mom, my sister and me after a day in the beach of Santo Domingo, fifth region. This was in the summer of 1998.

When I was a little girl, my family like a lot go to the beach on summer, it was something  that we usually do on that time to take advantage of summer days. This photo shows that, the times when we all together go to the beach for have a good time. Because that I like this photo, it remembers me when I was little and we had a great time with family, we were all together.

Now is different, my sister is far away in Central America, my brother is living in Valparaíso and I’m here in Santiago. My mother is the unique that still lives on the beach.Fortunately, Santiago isn’t so far from Santo Domingo and I can go on weekend.

Watchmen

I have never been interested in superheroes , I know that exist Superman or Spiderman but I never really like them until now. About a month ago, I was zapping on tv and I found a movie that seemed to be a good movie. It was a superheroes’ movie, the characters used costumes and fighted against the evil like all superheroes. The movie was Watchmen, and is and adaptation of the comic book of the same name by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Watchmen is a story about superheroes, and through them portray, analyze and criticize contemporary western society and the socio-political system in which limited. Criticize the concept of superhero, presents a alternative story where superheroes arise in the 1940's and 1960's, helping the United States to win the Vietnam war.

The story revolves around six characters principally - in the image - Laurel Juspeczyk, Dr.Manhattan, Dan Dreiberg, The Comedian, Adrian Veidt, Rorscharch, respectively.

I think this is a great comic, because is different of other comics, makes an excellent critique of the development of the Cold War. I recommend you read this comic, if you want to do it you can find it on internet, its easy to do it. and if you don't like to read, you can see the 2009 movie adaptation.

Here is the trailer of the movie

I hope you like it!

The analog camera

I have always been impressed about how machines work.Until today  is amazing for me see how a camera can capture a moment of life and make it appear in a photography.

My brother's camera
In the Christmas of 1998, my father gave to my brother Rodrigo a Zenit Camera (Russian Technology), He was thirteen years old and I was five years old, and since that moment we began to take picture of everyone and everything. That was our firt camera. It was really important for us that camera, we used it all day, taking picture of our friends, the family, the pets, the neighborhood, the city and everything we wanted. We used this camera many years, until one day the camera began to have problems with the lens.

This picture was taken with the Zenit Camera

After some years my mom bought a new camera. It was a digital camera, it wasn’t the same that the old camera but it was a camera at all. In that years the digital cameras became popular and so, photos became a everyday thing and lost the magic of the past.

Fortunately, my boyfriend have an analog camera, like my brother's first camera. It's wonderfull take picture with it and remember when I was a child and my and my brother taked picture and pictures...Now I can do the same with my boyfriend.

My favorite band

Today I'm going to write about one of my favorite bands, Calle 13.They are from Puerto Rico and in the last years they had become very popular between young people. The band is comprised of René Pérez "Residente" an his brother Eduardo Cabra "Visitante". René is singer and composer, and Eduardo is composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their sister Ileana Cabra "PG-13" participate in some songs. The band had won a lot of awards, including Latin Grammy Awards and Grammy Awards.
I'd like this band because their songs talk about social injustice, poverty and the situation of Latin America, criticising the system and society. As a famous band they try to show to the world the injustice and inequalities that here exist, something I think it is really important show it, for that people get interested and try do something.

Here is one of my favorite songs of Calle 13, "Latinoamérica"
